Advanced Trauma Life Support & Disaster Relief Mock Drill Exercise
In coordination with the District Disaster Management Authority, Civil Defense Corps, and municipal fire services, the Disaster Management Cell executed a large-scale Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Simulation and Field Triage Exercise. The exercise tested rapid field mobilization, casualty extraction, triage color-coding, and interim mobile hospital readiness under simulated crisis conditions.
The Simulation Scenario
The drill mimicked a structural industrial collapse and chemical pipeline rupture resulting in over 85 casualties presenting with varying severities of blast trauma, toxic inhalation, compound fractures, and hypovolemic shock. Within 12 minutes of the initial alert siren, field triage tents and decontamination showers were fully operational.
START Protocol Execution
Paramedics adhered to the internationally recognized Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment (START) protocol, evaluating respiration, perfusion, and mental status (RPM) in under 30 seconds per victim:
Red Tag
Life-threatening airway compromise, tension pneumothorax, or active arterial bleeds requiring instantaneous surgery.
Yellow Tag
Stable closed fractures, moderate soft tissue wounds requiring hospital treatment without immediate risk of death.
Green Tag
"Walking wounded" with minor abrasions, directed to outpatient assembly zones by volunteer marshals.
Black Tag
Non-survivable catastrophic injuries or absence of spontaneous respirations following airway positioning.
Operational Takeaways & Inter-Agency Coordination
The multi-agency debriefing praised the seamless digital synchronization between field triage tablets and hospital admission boards, which allowed receiving ER trauma surgeons to anticipate incoming surgical needs before transport ambulances even departed the perimeter.
"During widespread disasters, chaotic goodwill is as dangerous as lack of resources. Structured triage discipline ensures that every ventilator, surgical team, and blood unit is allocated where it saves the maximum number of human lives." — Incident Commander & Lead Evaluator
